Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Gules, issuing from base chevronwise two lightning flashes Or, in chief a bob burst Proper.  Attached below the shield a Gold scroll inscribed ARMIS TERRA ET COELUM in Black letters.

Symbolism
The shield is red for Artillery.  The burst and the lightning flashes denote the results of fast upward action and mobility of the unit.  The motto translates to Arms on the Ground and in the Skies.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 13 February 1952.  It was rescinded on 16 June 1961.
